London, 14th August 2012 Weymouth is the new venue for the finale of the P1 AquaX Championship, when the four national jet ski titles will be decided over the weekend of Saturday/Sunday, 15/16th September. The Olympic sailing venue of Weymouth will host the first ever visit of the P1 AquaX Championship to Dorset with the coastal resort replacing Southampton in the 2012 calendar. With prestigious national titles up for grabs in the UKs most popular personal watercraft racing championship, the Weymouth weekend is set to deliver first class free-to-watch action in Weymouth Bay. Spectators will be able to get close to the 30+ riders thanks to a race paddock location along North Pier. It will be a weekend of top level watersports action as London-based championship promoter Powerboat P1 is also bringing its thrilling P1 SuperStock UK powerboat championship to Weymouth to race alongside its jet ski series. The crowds coming to watch will see spectacular racing in Weymouth Bay from the pier and esplanade provided by our jet skis and powerboats. The sight of around 30 jet skis racing has to be seen to be believed, commented AquaX Championship Manager Lisa Barsby. The series has trebled in size this year and our finale is the most eagerly anticipated race weekend of the year by our riders. Weymouth is going to witness some exciting, close fought race action from both the powerboats and jet skis. The race meeting is being organised by Powerboat P1 in conjunction with UKOBA (United Kingdom Off-Shore Boating Association) and governing body the RYA. UKOBA has successfully organised powerboat racing in Weymouth for the past three years and invited Powerboat P1 to bring its prestigious national championships to the Dorset town. Teams will arrive in Weymouth on Friday, 14th September with the action starting on Saturday morning with a 20-minute qualifying race followed by the points scoring round in the afternoon and the final round of the championships on Sunday. The 2012 AquaX champions will then be crowned in the podium ceremony on Sunday afternoon. The move to Weymouth is the result of a failure to resolve an unforeseen sponsor conflict issue that caused concern with the organisers of the Southampton Boat Show. The penultimate rounds of both the P1 SuperStock and P1 AquaX championships take place in Cowes on 25/26th August.
