>Kevin Reiterer reports from Spain

23.-25. June 2016, Denia, Spain World Championship: The second round of the ABP Aquabike World Championship took place in beautiful Denia, Spain. Another open ocean race made up for an exciting battle of the best riders in the World. Coming into this event as the points leader was Austrian’s Kevin Reiterer and current World Champion. After qualifying in fourth Reiterer quickly made ground on leader Jeremy Poret (FRA). After passing the Frenchman Reiterer fell into a series of mistakes including a missed buoy. “I wasn’t a 100% in first Moto and after the buoy mistake I could not get back in my rhythm and lost ground.” says the 23 year old. Second Moto started equal to the previous race. Jeremy got the Holeshot and Reiterer started to add pressure. Inching each lap closer to Poret the Austrian powerhouse was defeated by a broken driveshaft in the seventh lap. Poret taking home to GP of Spain victory and having a solid points lead in the overall standings inching Reiterer back on fourth position. “The track was tough to pass, so I had to push the ski and myself to the limit in order to get to the lead. Unfortunately that resulted in a breakdown. The Championship is not over. We know we have got the speed and ability to make it happen. Congrats to Jeremy for his first win this year.” explains the devastated sports student. The third stop of the World Tour will be held in the beautiful Shanghai, China on the 23-25, September. Till then Reiterer will participate in a series of other events in Europe.
