>Team Green at the World Finals

There is no doubt about the fact that Team Kawasaki Jet Ski Racing is the only Factory Team at the World Finals paddock. It is the Team that brings the Factory look close the mortal racers and public. This year Team Green will participate with an STX-R, in other words the same hull-deck configuration the Team used the last two years, i.e. a reinforced Ultra hull toped with a 15F deck. The race craft will feature a brand new Ultra engine with a Vortech Supercharger though as the managed informed us they have designed a new coupler and dampener for the driveline to able to withstand the extra power and increase reliability. We suspect that last year the engine was even more powerful that ‘08’s version that is why the engine had some reliability issues.

>Will Kawasaki come back stronger?

Last year top pwc racers experienced mechanical issues with their powerfull Runabouts at the World Finals. MacClugage’s FZR and Craig Warner’s had some problems with the drive line coupler rubber. The powerfull engine was causing a lot of problems to it. Warner managed to win Moto 1 in a class of his own. He was also leading Moto2 but he did not succeeded on wining since he had a major engine failure. Kawasaki has won most of the four stroke titles in Pro Runabout Open Class with Sea Doo wining only one last year. The point is will Kawasaki come back this year with a stronger and more reliable package in order to win the title again? According to Team Kawasaki’s spokesman the company does not invest at all in pwc racing since most of the budget is spent in Road Racing and MX. On the other hand Kawasaki is the manufacture that pioneered Jet Ski Racing and it is on the pwc manufacturing scene for 35+ years. We speculate that Team Grean will show up with a brand new recipe this year…

>Jet Ski at its best in Mirandela, Portugal

A hot but successful start to the second round of the European Championship and the World Junior Championship in Mirandela – Portugal, with Mattia Fracasso benefiting with a technical failure to his main rival Franky Zapata in Runabout F1, and Jeremy Poret claiming a first place finish in Ski F1.With all the pilots loving the atmosphere in Mirandela the green light was given to the second round of the European Jet Ski Championship and also the Junior World Championship. In the main classes, especially Ski F1, Jeremy Poret came from a mediocre start to win the first moto on his FZ950, with the the home pilot Tiago Sousa coming in a strong second place. Mikael Poret, brother to the well prepared Jeremy, who incidentally was leading the race at the half way mark and fell, managed a third place finish with the Japanese pilot Hide Kurahachi right behind. In Runabout F1, and with Franky Zapata having technical issues and being forced to run a ‘stock’ Sea-Doo, Mattia Fracasso cleaned the field with a dominating performance on a very fast Sea-Doo RXT. In second place came the French pilot Jeremy Peree and in third the Italian Angelo Bertozzi. Quinten Bossche, the young Belgian who has dominated since a young age won the first moto of Ski Juniors F3 on his Yamaha Superjet and looks set to add to his other titles. Next on the agenda, night time freestyle show and slalom, which is always a crowd favourite, rounding up thousands of spectators to watch the ‘show’.

>Skip Holmes is on a long journey

Skip Holmes founder of TeamMotoRacing has been giving us his best view and knowledge on the Kawasaki Runbouts for years. His dedicated work and passion on tuning, trying and testing new parts and sharing his knowledge with the personal watercraft community was part of his life. We met him a few years ago while testing R&D’s pulley kits in Havasu right after the World Finals. Last year we worked along with him testing his Ultralite Ultra and his Pro Open Kawasaki projects. We shared information and tuning secrets. Finding out that he is no longer with us makes it difficult to put down on written format all the things we did together. He has been a real friend with true passion and love for the sport. We send out deepest condolences to his family and the persons he mostly loved. He will be always on our heart and minds and we feel happy that we met him.
