In 2002 we decided it was time to get boosted. Working with a Vortech supercharger and intercooler we designed the industry's first complete, turn-key supercharger kit for a personal watercraft. The kit included a billet aluminum mounting plate for the supercharger and belt tensioner, a billet aluminum crank pulley/coupler, an aluminum air box, a billet aluminum mounting plate to relocate the oil cooler, and a book with detailed installation instructions and pictures. We debuted the kit at the 2002 World Finals and began shipping kits mid 2003. Prior to its release PWI did a performance evaluation of the kit installed in a Yamaha FX-HO (160hp MR-1 engine). On our in-house engine Dyno the kit produced 206hp and 149ft/lbs of torque at 10,000rpm and the craft ran 71.47mph on our test lake (0~30mph in 3.65 seconds / 0~60 in 6.81 seconds). However, was the M1R engine producing only 140hp back in those days?
