>Karujet 2011 Heat 4: Pons wins Karujet

Whichever way anyone had seen this year’s event it would say that it was a magnificent and very exciting race. Teddy Pons and Yamaha Audemar mastered not only the Atlantic waves but proved that in order to win you need good strategy and above all, experience. Pons had calculated methodically the refuel of second day at Pointe Noire and he continued consistently and progressed on winning Heat 2 which was a very important stage of the race. Up to this point other experienced riders - Farthing, Pastorello (Mark Hahn 300 2011 winner) and MacClugage- experience all sort of issues. The big surprise of this year’s event was no other than local racer Cendric Ramassamy (Kawasaki 300X) who ended up in second place along with Patrick Gounouman. Another very fast rider was Davy Vaitilington (Kawasaki 300X) who although he was sick at the beginning of the race he managed to climb fast in third overall. Winner of F2 was Jean-Luc Jashi. Official UIM Race Report: Monday, 18 April, Guadeloupe: Teddy Pons from France was crowned the winner of the 14th edition of the Karujet run in memory of the late Mauro Ravenna after finishing in eighth place in the fifth and final stage. After 5 heats and 600 km around Guadeloupe’s butterfly Island it was the French star who came out on top and who best-mastered the difficult conditions and poor weather which at times took their toll of several of the fancied riders including last year’s winner, Jean-Bruno Pastorello and Americans Dustin Farthing and Chris McCluggage. Sunday’s last two heats (4 &5) were made up of 8 laps of 15km each from Viard beach to Mouchoir Carré and back to Viard. After taking second place in heat three, finishing behind Davy Vaitilingon and ahead of Fabien Limon, Teddy Pons started with a gap of 4' on Cedric Ramassamy (GWA) and 13' on the third in the overalls, Francoise Medori (FRA). Pons sat back in heat four doing enough to protect his overall lead, with the stage win going to Jean Christophe Prayas (SBT), with Gounuman Patrick (GWA) second and Bruno Vincendeau (FRA) in third. Pons finished in 7th ahead of his main rival Ramassamy in 8th. The fifth and final heat win went to Dusting Farthing with Vincent Karam (GWA) in second and Jean-Bruno Pastorello (FRA) in third. Pons’ strategy was to cover off his main rivals Ramassamy and Gounuman, which he did, finishing in eighth, with Ramassamy down in 19th and Gounuman finishing in 9th position to jump Medori and take third overall. Overall Standings: 1.Teddy Pons, 2.Centric Ramassamy, 3.Patrick Gounouman, 4.Francois Medori, 5.Jean Meclot,6.Mathieu Podda, 7.Christophe Concoriet, 8.Herve Partouche, 9.Jean Luc Jahsy, 10.Hugues Degrandmaison. >Karujet 2011: Pons 1st at Heat 3

Teddy Pons (Yamaha FZR) official rider of Audemar was unstoppable on third day of Karujet ahead of local ace Centric Ramassay (Kawasaki 300X) who made the big surprise in this 14th edition of the race. According to most reports we have read on this race refuel plays key role to the overall standing and progression of its team and this is the particular field which Audemar had proved its expertise and professionalism. Third place went to Francois Medori (Kawasaki 260X) although some report talk about Pastorello climbing on third place onboard his fast 300X (he is still left far behind at the Overall Standings). If Pons plays it safe on last day he has got a very big chance of winning the Karujet Race this year. We still expect UIM to announce the official result of third day.

>Karujet 2011: Mac without luck

According to the recent information we got from R&D, Chris MacClugage had bought the new R&D watercooled Supercharger Housing for the Yamaha he planning to race at Karujet. Multi World Champion had pulled away from the pack and he was ahead with a difference of almost 1 minute however, a big misjudgement over the fuel required to go the distance proved to be a costly error, with the American stopping several miles before the finish line. He also run into some sort of trouble the second day too and most probably he had lost any hope of chasing Teddy Pons and the overall win this year at Karujet. Chris MacClugage has won back in 2004 and also had competed in 2007 at Karujet. This year he competes with Team Yamaha Marine Martini and we hope that he will be able to continue the race tha next two days.

Guadeloupe, 15 April - The stars and stripes fluttered over Caribbean waters as Aquabike veteran Dustin Farthing headed the overall standings in the 14th edition of the Karujet. The 32-year old American aquabiker, driving a Kawasaki jet, led the fleet home after a gruelling 138km to win heat 1 by 56 seconds, with Frenchman Teddy Pons on a Yamaha in second place. Farthing was the first to pass, even without his seat, lost during the race, followed by Teddy Pons (FRA), an expert driver in the UIM Aquabike World Championship. Guadeloupe's Ramassamy Cedric arrived only 1'09 later to take an impressive third place and give the home supporters something to shout about. 2010 winner Pastorello dropped out of the race after only a few minutes because of an engine problem, all but ending any hope of competing for the overall win, with a gap of 2h 30' between him and leader, Farthing.
