R&D initially designed and manufactured the M-16 reeds valves for the Yamaha GPR engine in order to be able to extrude as much power as possible out from the GPR power plant. They succeeded it in 2000 when Riuss GPR catapulted Team Kawasakis race crafts and he won the World title. Later R&D worked along with Team Kawasaki with the scope to produce a more power powerful project, and one more project went fine with Kawasaki dominating the races with the STX-R.
